Cicerchia

(Lathyrus sativus)

The “cicerchia” is among the first species domesticated by man. Studies show that, awith the pea and lentil, the cicerchia is one of the most widespread legumes in prehistory. The cicerchia is a legume very rustic, ensuring a good production even under unfavorable conditions, so that a popular proverb said: “who has a debt plant  cicerchia”. In Puglia there are the white cicerchia from Murgia area, the big cicerchia from Gravina, the mottled cicerchia from Murgia area and the cicerchia from Uggiano.
